3 CORE TOOLS TO MANAGE A LAKE OR POND

  • AERATION
  • BENEFICIAL BACTERIA
  • ALGAE CONTROLS

NATURAL POND AND LAKE MANAGEMENT - AERATION

Oxygen is generally created through two different sources when it comes to aerating a pond or lake:

Spray Fountains

Diffused Aerators

Pond and Lake Management

Spray Fountains typically float on the surface and spray water up into the air. As the water falls back to the surface it picks up oxygen, which is then delivered back into the lake or pond. Fountains create surface ripples and tension on the surface of the lake or pond, providing circulation which helps keep the surface clear. As an added feature they are a water feature that creates beauty from a distance, particularly when lighting is added.

Diffused air systems utilize a shore-mounted air compressor that pumps oxygen through a hose to an air diffuser(s) lying at the bottom of the pond. Since the bottom of the pond is where most of the oxygen is consumed, it is an ideal way to deliver oxygen to where it is needed most. As the diffused bubbles rise from the diffusers they create “lifting”, which creates circulation in the pond/lake. This lifting helps to prevent water stratification.

NATURAL POND AND LAKE MANAGEMENT - BENEFICIAL BACTERIA:

Beneficial Bacteria is used to help keep water clean and clear. The use of the bacteria helps to reduce build up of sludge and algae and creates a better environment for all aquatic life including fish and plants.

There are two forms of beneficial bacteria:

Dry: Dry generally takes time to activate, but can be useful for larger bodies of water as it is more cost effective for its coverage.

Liquid: Liquid is generally faster acting, but can be a bit pricier

NATURAL POND AND LAKE MANAGEMENT - ALGAE CONTROL

image15Pond Dye

Pond Dye is a non toxic tint for ponds that helps to keep ponds clean by shaded the water from the heat of the sun, thus helping to prevent algae growth. It is safe for fish and plants and looks beautiful too!

Pond dye is available in shades of blue and black

Concentrated Pond dye is available in a one litre bottle that treats up to an acre pond!
